Medway Planning Policy Update

Medway Council has recently updated its programme for preparing the new Medway Local Plan.

Medway Council are now working to publish the draft later this year, so that they can take account of the outcome of a major bid for infrastructure funding.  You can see the updated timetable for the new local plan in the Medway Local Development Scheme here (click on the LDs document).

They are working on a number of documents to support the local plan; this includes planning for the town centres. The Council are publishing draft masterplans and deliver strategy documents for Chatham, Gillingham and Strood for comments.   They are consulting on these documents from 16 August to 30 September 2019.  Comments are welcome and these will be taken into account when drawing up the final versions of the plans.  You can view the information here.

Copies of the documents can also be viewed at Chatham, Gillingham and Strood libraries and at the Council’s offices at Gun Wharf during normal opening hours.  You can find the details of the opening hours and locations of the libraries here.

The new local plan will set out how the Council seeks to protect and strengthen the environment.  They have prepared some early work on a draft Medway Green & Blue Infrastructure vison and welcome comments and ideas.  This will form part of a wider strategy document.

The Council have also published a Housing Delivery Test action plan which sets out how the Council will help to boost rates of housebuilding in Medway.  You can view the plan here.  Comments are welcome.
