Community Centre Car Park – Introduction of ANPR

Chatham Maritime Trust has taken the difficult decision to implement an ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) system in the community centre car park. The installation will take place in the next two weeks.

This follows a series of unfortunate incidents, violence and disorder and general irresponsible driving in the car park at school drop off and pick up times over a long period. The Trust cannot tolerate threatening behaviour to residents and Trust staff and the installation is a direct result of these behaviours.

The car park is for legitimate users of the community centre, doctors’ surgery and pharmacy only.

As part of the installation, keypads will be installed in the surgery, pharmacy and community centre allowing valid users to enter their registration number, which will ensure that their car is not given a parking charge. ALL valid users of these facilities will be permitted to park as long as their registration number is entered correctly. Staff at these sites have been trained and are aware of the new system.

We understand that there have been unfortunate incidents of parking in nearby roads causing problems with residents. We have advised the Highways authority and the Ward councillor of our intention to install the ANPR system and we recommend that any representations regarding highways issues are directed to them. Public highways are not the responsibility of the Trust.

The installation is cost neutral, CMT has not invested any money in the equipment or signage. In addition, any revenue generated via car parking tickets issued, goes directly to the car park management company and not to the Trust.

There will be a short period of grace during the installation and for a few days thereafter to ensure everything is working correctly.

We hope that the ANPR installation will bring an end to the unfortunate behaviour we have witnessed over the years, and we will continue to monitor the situation on a regular basis.

The company responsible for managing the system (Civil Enforcement Limited) can be contacted at www.ce-service.co.uk. All enquiries or appeals should be directed to them in the first instance.

Many thanks

The Chatham Maritime Trust Team
