Update from Living River Foundation

During the Winter the litter boom has been stored ashore, to keep it safe from the winds and storms and to have various repairs and maintenance carried out. Litter collections have continued however without the boom, teams have been chasing litter around the Marina where it collects in various corners. The boom allows us to concentrate our efforts in one place as it captures and collects rubbish passively.

As we approach the Easter Half term, it is now time to re-activate our Litter boom and position it back in place in the North-East corner of Chatham Marina Basin 1. Primed to collect as much of the litter that accumulates in the basin from the surrounding areas during the summer months.

We are looking for volunteers to assist with the launching process, connecting each section and securing the boom in place on the wall. We will be using our boat “Patch” to tow the boom in place, where over the summer months we will then be then actively clearing the rubbish collected by the boom.  The launch date is Thursday 6th April from 13.30 to 16.30.

If you would like to get involved in the relaunching and reinstallation of the Boom, please book your place through the portal page here.

Clean-ups on land around the estuary will be advertised for April and May.  Marina clean-ups restart on the third Sunday of the month starting in April.
