The Lord Roberts (Steam Engine) visits the University Medway Campus
The Lord Roberts locomotive will be visiting the Medway Campus on Tuesday 2nd April.
The Lord Roberts is a 1900 John Fowler Road locomotive built in the 1900s and was used on the campus when the HMS Pembroke Naval Barracks was being built to bring bricks from the local brickyard to the campus for the construction of the buildings.
The reason for the visit is to enable the owners to take photos of it next to the iconic buildings of which it was part of the construction process. The other reason is for staff and students, in particular engineering students, to take a look and see how it works.
The programme for the visit is:
12.30ish in front of Hawke building
14.00-14.30 outside the Student Hub
If you’ve got the time, this is a great opportunity to see an excellent example of early 20th century engineering.
