Supported by Chatham Maritime Trust and Marina Developments Ltd

The Living River Foundation’s Litter Free Maritime Project aims to reduce environmental litter and support wildlife in collaboration with local businesses and communities. They have organized litter picks on St. Mary’s Island and estuary visits that prioritize the protection of bird populations. With backing from Chatham Maritime Trust and Marina Developments Ltd, the project gained traction, highlighted by a trial litter boom launch on November 29, 2019, by Medway Mayor Councillor Habib Tejan to collect hard-to-reach litter.

The Foundation also offers cruises, workshops, and community clean-ups. In 2020, they partnered with Unravel and Unwind for workshops focused on reducing plastic waste. They engaged Medway Campus students through a Volunteer Conference. The Foundation has received positive media coverage, including features on BBC South East News and ITV Meridian. Following the success of Phase 1, Phase 2 will see further interventions at the site. For more information, visit their website.
