Saintara, the thriving retirement association, has a healthy membership of 178, with some vacancies available. Supported by Chatham Maritime Trust’s Community Fund, members enjoy a weekly coffee and games morning every Friday from 10am-1pm, featuring short mat bowls, table tennis, and quizzes, promoting physical and mental wellbeing for those over 50.
This provides a valuable social opportunity, especially for those living alone. Additionally, members can attend monthly gatherings with guest speakers and social chats on the third Wednesday of each month from 2pm-4pm at the St Mary’s Island Community Centre. Friends and family are welcome to join during Friday sessions to learn more.
Weekly activities for members
- Monday, 1:30pm: Petanque at the pitch near HMS Chatham Bridge.
- Wednesday, 1:30pm: Line dancing (not on the third Wednesday).
- Friday: Morning activities include short mat bowls, table tennis, scrabble, and quizzes; afternoon features Mahjong and Curling.
Additional offerings: pub lunches, cycle rides, day trips, quiz nights, and an annual short holiday. Membership is open to those over 50, including non-Island residents. Feel free to attend a monthly meeting as a trial.

Staying Connected
Medway Council has produced a booklet called Staying Connected, to provide information to older people about the support that is available and events that are taking place in the community in Medway. It also contains information about care services, staying connected through volunteering and a lot more.
