Wigmore Lecture: Who Were The Huguenots?

February 20, 2019 @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm

The Huguenots were French Protestants escaping religious persecution from the mid-1500s onwards.  In the late 17th century 50,000 settled in this country and 1 in 6 people may be descended from Huguenot refugees.

In this illustrated talk Dinah Winch, Director of Medway’s Huguenot Museum, will explore where they settled, how they made a new life in England and how they were received.  Dinah will focus on Kent where most of the Huguenots first arrived; she will also bring along objects from The Huguenot Museum.

This talk takes place at Wigmore Library, 208 Fairview Avenue, Wigmore, Gillingham ME8 OPX at 8 pm.

Tickets can be booked at any Medway library or by calling 01634 337799.  This talk can form part of the Wigmore Lectures season ticket deal.
