Wigmore Lecture ‘The Women Who Saved the Birds’

October 16, 2019 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm

The Wigmore Lectures take place at Wigmore Library and the first in the series is titled ‘The Women Who Saved the Birds’ which takes place on Wednesday 16th October at 8 pm.

Twelve years before the suffragette movement began dominating the headlines, a very different women’s campaign caught the public imagination.  Its aim was simple:  to save the birds from the cruel fashion for feathered hats.

This is the extraordinary story of the RSPB’s birth – the subject of Tessa Boase’s gripping new social history, Mrs Pankhurt’s Purple Feather.  With meticulous research, Tessa has unearthed some rare images, a cast of invisible characters – and a surprising political secret.

Individual tickets are priced at £4.  You can buy a season ticket for all six lectures for £22.

For further information or to book call 01634 337799.
