Medway Talk: Time for Change: The Health & Cognitive Implications of Daylight Saving Time

May 22 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Presented by Dr Aiste Steponaite

Daylight Saving Time (DST) has been a long-standing practice in many regions, requiring people to adjust their clocks twice a year, either losing or gaining one hour of sleep. While the primary goal of DST is to make better use of natural daylight and conserve energy, its broader implications on human health and cognition remain a subject of growing concern. This research talk explores the multifaceted effects of DST beyond the clock adjustments, delving into potential health and cognitive risks associated with these semi-annual changes and we will examine the necessity and relevance of continuing DST in our modern society, considering the available scientific evidence and societal implications.

Medway Talks is an open lecture series run by the academic staff from the Universities at Medway – University of Greenwich, University of Kent and Canterbury Christ Church University. There are 9 talks in total, running from September 2023 to June 2024.
