Pint Size Session of Science – The Future is Green – The Future is Seaweed

The Pint of Science is a festival that aims to communicate contemporary scientific developments to the public in an engaging and approachable way by bringing scientists to the pub! These sessions will take place on three consecutive nights in 24 countries worldwide and in 41 cities across the UK.
This is the second pint size session of science organized by the Faculty of Engineering & Science at the University of Greenwich. This session is titled ” The Future is Green – The Future is Seaweed”.
Between a ‘rock’ and a hard place – mineralisation of CO2 as a Carbon Capture and Utilisation Strategy.
Anthropogenic CO2 emissions can be used as a feedstock to make everyday materials. With potential to divert Gt CO2 from the atmosphere, Professor Colin Hills will discuss pioneering work on the manufacture of construction materials from mineralized CO2.
Sun, CO2 and Seaweed – Future or Flop?
Dr John Milledge will be covering this subject:
- world population is growing
- fresh water, land and fossil field are finite
- carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is increasing
- oceans are 72% of the earth’s surface

This event takes place at The Command House Pub, Dock Road, Chatham ME4 4TX. Doors open 6.30 pm, the event starts at 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm.
