Medway Talks – X-Ray Imaging, Artificial Intelligence & Digital Technologies

November 29 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Medway Talks is an open lecture series run by the University of Greenwich, University of Kent and Canterbury Christ Church University.

The talks are free to attend but booking is required.

The talks are open to everyone in the community including students and staff from the Universities at Medway.

On Wednesday 29th November Professor Gianluca Tozzi will be talking about X-ray imaging, artificial intelligence and digital technologies: from Star Wars to real-world synergistic applications.  Professor Tozzi is Professor of Industrial Engineering in the School of Engineering at the University of Greenwich.  His research is devoted to the understanding of structure/function in biological tissues and biomaterials aimed at informing product development for industry as well as clinical practice.  X-ray imaging, artificial intelligence and digital technologies for most of us are part of a galaxy far away— where medical droids like 2-1B can swiftly assess injuries and fractures, ensuring precise treatment for Luke and Anakin Skywalker.  Artificial intelligence, embodied in droids like C-3PO and R2-D2, allowing for real-time decision-making during critical moments and digital technologies in the form of holographic displays enabling the storage and retrieval of vast amounts of data.

Professor Tozzi presents his experience , from this galaxy, on practical integration of X-ray computed tomography, experimental mechanics, measuring techniques such as digital volume correlation and artificial intelligence to unravel multi-scale mechanics of biological tissues and biomaterials, producing commercial impact.  Discover the link between science fiction and the wonders of todays technology.

Each talk will be held in the Pilkington Lecture Theatre (PK008) in the Pilkington Building at the University of Greenwich (Medway Campus). You can park for free in the Drill Hall Library car park.

Talks will run from 6pm until 7pm with refreshments available on arrival.
