
Medway Talk – Mental Health vs Mental Illness by Canterbury Christ church University

Professor Aamer Sarfraz is a Consultant Psychiatrist working in Oxleas NHS Trust. His is an author, editor and teacher. Aamer has lectured around the world. His specialist area is patient safety and psychiatry. His academic work is based at Canterbury Christ Church University where he is Professor of Psychiatry. This lecture will focus on why some people struggle with their mental health and what we can do to stay mentally healthy.
The term mental health is used frequently in the media and has been raised by many famous people. But what does this actually mean? Why is it that some people keep mentally healthy but others become anxious or depressed – even when it seems there is no cause? What can we do to protect our mental health and how can common mental illnesses be treated? This lecture will explore the answers to these questions.
Medway Talks is an open lecture series run by our academic staff from the Universities at Medway – University of Greenwich, University of Kent and Canterbury Christ Church University. There are 9 FREE talks in total, running from September 2023 to June 2024.
The talks are open to everyone in the local community, including students and staff at the Universities at Medway. Talks will be free of charge to attend, but registration is required.
Each talk will be held in the Pilkington Lecture Theatre (PK008) in the Pilkington Building. For parking, you are able to park free of charge in our Drill Hall Library car park.
Talks will run from 6pm until 7pm with refreshments available on arrival.
