Medway Council River Festival

This is a free family event that takes place on Chatham Waterfront from 11 am to 5 pm – from Sun Pier (by the B & M store) to Gun Wharf offices.
The event will include demonstrations and have-a-go-river and land activities. The ever-popular fire tug returns and new for this year are performances by the army boat display team.
A highlight this year will be a giant inflatable 18m whale. You can step inside the whale and meet the cheerful Navigator to experience an interactive show which will highlight the impact plastic has on our environment through a series of fun learning and theatrical experiences.
There will also be food stalls, Father’s Day activities and children’s entertainment as well as arts and crafts in Chatham Library.
The schedule of events is as follows:
12 noon: Army display Team (they will have a boat on land that youngsters can climb on)
12.30pm: Hovercraft Display
1 pm: Sail Past including Historic vessels
1.30 pm: SAR Flight and River Rescue Demonstration
2 pm: Fire Tug Display (look out for the famous spinning pistol)
2.30 pm: Hovercraft Display
3 pm: Medway Towns rowing Club Display
3.30 pm: Army Display Team
The above times may be subject to change.
There will be dance on the pier – a mix of dance genres (Tai chi/Chinese / Irish / funky ballet and hip hop) and ages and will include have-a-go sessions between 12 noon to 4 pm.
Fort Amherst will also be open to the public and will have the following activities:
- Dad’s Army tunnel tour
- BBQ
- Guns and small cannon on display
- Children dress up
- Vintage tearoom (in the cafe)
- Adult Education activity (making badges)
- Fort craft activity
