May 25 @ 10:00 am - September 8 @ 6:00 pm

The Historic Dockyard Chatham is hosting an exhibition from the V&A  Museum of Childhood in London as part of its National tour – Chatham being the first stop.  The exhibition is titled A Pirate’s Life for Me and runs from 25th May to 8th September 2019.

The exhibition will be located in the Dockyard’s temporary exhibition space in the No. 1 Smithery, the cost of which is included in visitors’ annual tickets.  It’s a perfect day for families to explore a variety of Pirate collections exploring the history and impact of Pirates in popular culture from Victorian Britain to the present day through displays, including toys, books, costumes, illustrations, games and photographs.

The exhibition’s immersive and playful set design leads its young visitors on a journey from a seaside tavern, where they will discover a mysterious map, to a pirate boutique and tropical treasure island.  There will be opportunity for young bucaneers to take up the challenge to be a Pirate in search of hidden treasure within the exhibition as well as exploring popular Pirate stories and the importance behind them.
