Holocaust Memorial Day

January 27, 2020 @ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Holocaust Day takes place on the 27th January and encourages remembrance in a world that is still marked by genocide.  The six million Jews that were murdered during the Holocaust alongside millions of people killed under the Nazi persecution and in subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Bosnia, Rwanda and Darfur.

The 27th January marks the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi camp.

Holocaust memorial Day commemoration takes place in Rochester Cathedral on Monday 27th January from 6 pm, refreshments will be available from 5.30 pm.  Service will include presentations, readings and performances from Chatham Memorial Synagogue, Rochester Cathedral, Kent Police, Medway Inter-Faith Action forum, Mayor of Medway, Medway Youth Council and Medway Schools.

The theme this year is Stand Together, which explores how genocide regimes throughout history have deliberately fractured societies by marginalising certain groups.  Learning from the past will encourage action to create a safe future.
