Hever’s Home Front Event

Hever’s Home Front event takes place on Saturday and Sunday 22nd and 23rd June where you can step back in time to the 1940s to see what life was like during the Second world War.
You can take part in a swing dance in the tea dance tent, tap your toes to the music and browse a variety of stalls selling vintage wares and refreshments.
Experience the sights and smells of the time with authentic cooking along with displays of US military vehicles. You can really be part of the scene by dressing up in period costume with prizes awarded for the best-dressed visitors; you can finish off your outfit by a visit to the 1940s hair salon!
Visitors will have the chance to meet Winston Churchill and enjoy displays of Home Guard drills and period model boats on the Moat, or have a selfie with a life-size model Spitfire.
Younger visitors will be able to take part in a workshop in the museum, plus there will be tours of the KSY Military Museum throughout the day.
On Saturday 22nd June there will be a special treat as several veteran soldiers, pilots and sailors who served both during and after World War II will be there to give their first-hand accounts of the war and visitors will have the opportunity to ask any questions they want to.
Activities at this event are:
US re-enactment – FREE. See US military troops and their vehicles. Saturday & Sunday: 10.30 am to 17.30
British re-enactment – FREE. Meet the Home Guard and British armed forces. Saturday & Sunday: 10.30 am to 17.30
Performances – FREE. See Viv the Spiv, Miss Annie, the Churchills, Rob be Bop and the 2351 Sqn RAF Cadets Band perform. Saturday & Sunday throughout the day.
Dance tent – FREE. Swing dance lesson / Barn dance lesson / Veterans sing along (Saturday only). Saturday and Sunday.
Pre-war cars and World War II Model Boats – FREE. Saturday & Sunday throughout the day.
Life-size Model Spitfire – FREE. Saturday & Sunday throughout the day.
Meet WWII Veterans; hear them recount their experiences on the battlefield. Saturday only.
Best dressed competition hosted by Viv the Spiv with prizes awarded for the best dressed at Hever’s Home Front. 15.00 on Saturday and Sunday.
Vintage Stalls: Pretty Me Vintage Hair Salon / Chaps of Distinction / Heritage Milliner / My Vintage Lane / Vintage Pin Up / Where the good Stuff is / Ruby Jo Retro. Stalls will be selling their wares from 10.30 am to 5.30 pm.
