GREat Medway Talk – Improving Compliance for Low Dose Aspirin Geriatric Patients
March 11, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
This is the last lecture in the current series of Great Medway Talks which takes place on Wednesday 11th March 2020 and is delivered by Dr Joshua Boateng from the School of Science at the University of Greenwich.
Recent studies have reported that dysphagia is an increasing problem among aging population who are a growing demographic, especially in developed countries. This makes it difficult for such patients to swallow the most commonly used medicines such as tablets, capsules and in some cases liquid medicines. Therefore alternative solutions specifically tailored to the special needs of older populations, are required. This lecture will explore the alternative solutions available and specifically discuss freeze-dried dosage forms prepared using commonly used pharmaceutical polymers for the administration of low dose aspirin for older patients with dysphagia.
Dr Joshua Boateng is a Reader in Pharmaceutical Science and formulation Technologies at the University of Greenwich. He obtained his BSc Pharmaceutical Science degree from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana, an MSc (Pharmaceutical Analysis) and PhD (Drug Delivery and formulation) from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow. He has published extensively and is Editorial Board Member for the Journal of Pharmaceutical Science and a Fellow of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
