Festival of Steam & Transport at the Historic Dockyard Chatham

The Historic Dockyard Chatham is hosting the annual Festival of Steam & Transport which promises to be bigger than ever! This is an event for the whole family to enjoy.
Lining the streets of the Dockyard will be a variety of classic cars from the 1930s right up to the 1980s as well as the Dockyard’s trains steaming through the site throughout the day. The giants of steam will be present – from road rollers to steam traction engines and the air will be filled with the nostalgic smells of steam from a bygone era.
The Victorian inspired Steampunks take over the iconic mezzanine No. 3 Slip with live acts, fashion stands, photo opportunities and a lot more. Their quirky sense of fashion and wacky inventions are a sight to behold for all ages!
Street entertainers will be popping up all across the site over the weekend – from the Giant Balloon Show, a Dodo Rider and even Phileas Fogg will make an appearance following his journeys around the globe.
The Historic Dockyard will be working in partnership with BBC Radio Kent to fill the air with the best music from across the county. A variety of live music will be staged and acts that are confirmed to-date include:
- Sam Winston – a folk rock/alt pop artist and multi-instrumentalist
- Jayne snow – a professional singer/songwriter
- Aid Lewis – a singer, songwriter, performer who tells stories through music
- Mike Mayfield – incredible vocalist and guitarist who has played alongside such artists as Emeli Sande, Jessie J and Rita Ora
- James Hodder – London based troubadour who fuses Folk and Americana influences
The Rock Choir will also be there performing throughout the weekend.
A Victorian Funfair will be in situ and will be included in the admission price to the event. Visitors can ride again and again on classic funfair rides – Carousel, Ferris Wheel, Dodgems and many more.
The Secret Lab experience in the No. 1 Smithery Courtyard will be open to visitors; an opportunity for interactive science fun.
There will also be unique and appetising food and drink stands to tempt you!
