Discover the Dockyard Talks: The Dockyard Fire – A Firefighter’s Perspective
November 6, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 4:00 pm

Drawing on his service of 40 years in the Kent Fire Brigade, Graham Gash looks at the catastrophic fire which destroyed No. 2 Slip in 1966.
In July 1966, built in the 1770’s and covered in 1837, it went up in flames together with a substantial number of old naval ship figureheads that were stored there. The fire was later attributed to a Dockyard worker but it was never established if it was an accident or a deliberate act. There were no deaths or serious injuries but 41 people received minor injuries in trying to put out the fire.
The talks take place at 11 am and 2 pm. The meeting point is The Mess Deck Restaurant.
Visitors should book their time slot on arrival at The Historic Dockyard; the cost is included in the annual ticket price.
