Dead of Night Event at Fort Amherst

Britain’s largest Napoleonic Fortess, Fort Amherst is a place full of history and intrigue. In 1708 plans were put in place to construct a fortification to protect the Royal Dockyard from land-based attacks; this is where the story of Fort Amherst began.
The fort is full of tunnels and caves that provided an underground labyrinth which protected many gun positions in the event of a siege. Many interesting things lie beneath, with features like a well, privies, defendable gateways and cannon positions. It is said that you can hear marching and the big doors opening as you call out! The place has a very haunting feel and you can experience this for yourself!
