Celebrating 125 Years of Sustainable Development: The Natural Resources Institute

This talk is titled “Celebrating 125 years of Sustainable Development: the Natural Resources Institute and its role since 1894” and is delivered by Professor Andrew Westby of the Natural Resources Institute.

In 2019 the Natural Resources Institute will celebrate 125 years since it was created as “The Imperial Institute” at the behest of Prince Albert.

Professor Westby, Director and expert on Cassava, will explain some of the complicated history of the Institute and its predecessor organisations, highlight some globally important scientific contributions and explain the exciting work that NRI does today to contribute towards the sustainable Development Goals.

Professor Andrew Westby has been the Director of NRI since May 2010.  As a principal investigator and researcher, Andrew has travelled extensively  across the world working on collaborative projects from counterparts in all continents.  He has led many large multi-national and multi-disciplinary research projects with funding won from a wide range of donors including the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, UK Department for International Development, the European Commission RTD Framework and EuropeAid EDF programmes, Food Standards Agency and the Common Fund for Commodities.

This talk takes place on Wednesday 11th December 2019 at 6 pm  in the Ward Room in Pembroke Building on the Medway Campus.  The series of Great Talks are free and therefore popular so admission is by registration only.  Places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.  To secure a place call 01634 883495 or email:  ">.
