Artist Talk at Sun Pier House: Wendy Daws BEM, Collaborative Visual Artist
December 12, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Wendy Daws will be talking on Thursday 12th December from 7 pm to 9 pm. This is one of a series of Artist Talks taking place at Sun Pier House in the Gallery and is a pilot for an ongoing programme of artist talks at sun Pier in 2020. The bar will be open for refreshments.
Wendy is passionate about crating inclusive and tactile art. She will discuss her 15 years experience developing her practice and working closely with the Kent association for the Blind.
“I volunteer for the Kent Association for the Blind, running two art groups for blind and partially sighted residents of Medway and Gravesend. I am passionate about this work and it directly feeds my creative practice, I was involved in Rochester Cathedral’s research into creating a tactile interpretation of the Baptismal Fresco by Sergei Fyodorov, and subsequently commissioned to create the bronze tactile interpretation now on permanent display. I am working with the Beaney House of Art and Knowledge and Canterbury Cathedral, aiming to open the arts and heritage to blind and partially sighted visitors. I believe strongly that disability is not an impairment to creativity. Art is for all regardless of age, ability or background. I thrive on collaborating. My artistic proactive revolves around the people I meet and my responses are triggered by situations. I use materials to tell my story and if I can say it in a shadow, all the better for it. I invite you to touch the art work and very happy to hear wheat you think bout ‘touch’ and ‘do not touch’.
Tickets are £5 per person; for Students £4. Note: there is no disabled access to the venue. Tickets can be pre-booked via Eventbrite.
